Terms of Service
Last updated 1 January 2026. This is a template agreement provided for evaluation and must be reviewed by your board's legal counsel before deployment.
1. Agreement
These terms govern access to and use of the StepUp platform. Where a school or board has signed a separate institutional licensing agreement, that agreement controls and these terms supplement it.
2. Institutional licensing
StepUp is licensed per school or per board for a defined term and a defined number of enrolled students. Licences are non-transferable. Administrators are responsible for provisioning and de-provisioning staff accounts promptly.
3. Acceptable use
Users may not attempt to access records they are not authorised to view, share credentials, reverse engineer the service, scrape data at scale, or use the platform to make automated decisions that materially affect a student without human review by qualified guidance staff.
4. Guidance is advisory
Career recommendations, pathway suggestions and risk indicators are decision-support outputs generated from the data provided. They are not guarantees of admission, employment or outcome, and they do not replace the professional judgement of a guidance counselor.
5. Data ownership
Schools retain ownership of all student and staff data submitted to StepUp. StepUp processes that data only to deliver the service and does not sell it or use it to train third-party models without explicit written permission.
6. Availability and support
We target high availability during the school year and provide support during business hours in the licensing region. Planned maintenance is communicated to administrators in advance.
7. Security
StepUp maintains administrative, technical and physical safeguards including encryption, row-level access control, audit logging and periodic review. Suspected incidents affecting personal information are reported to affected schools without undue delay.
8. Suspension and termination
Access may be suspended for security reasons or material breach. On termination, schools may export their data for a defined window, after which it is deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, StepUp's aggregate liability is limited to the fees paid for the licence term in which the claim arose. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Changes
We may update these terms; material changes are communicated to licensed administrators before they take effect.
